Grocery stores will be having “price wars” to gain customers over the Thanksgiving holiday. Some stores will advertise inexpensive turkeys or free stuffing. Make sure to read all of the fine print and make sure it really is a good deal. Instead of driving to every store, check the ads to determine which store has the most deals that you need to create a holiday meal.
Make a list in advance. With sales in full swing, every isle will offer a deal or discount enticing shoppers to add one more unnecessary purchase to their cart. There are always great intentions in the grocery store to add one more dish to the table using the discounted item in the store. Skip the last minute addition and stay with the shopping list.
To save gas, visit a Super Walmart and take advantage of the price match policy. Collect all of the other store advertisements. Circle the items that you want to price match and have the ads ready for the cashier to save time checking out. Make one shopping trip to one store to save not only money, but time as well.
In the Kitchen
Think about the number of guests and the amount of food needed. Only make enough for the Thanksgiving meal and a few leftovers. If no one at the table enjoys a certain entrée or side dish, leave it out this year. Even though it may be a traditional item found on most Thanksgiving tables, if no one eats it, it’s a waste.
Have everyone bring something to Thanksgiving this year. The cost of providing turkey, dressing, all the sides, drinks and dessert for a houseful can add up quickly. With each guest bringing something from their own kitchen, the cost, as well as the time, will be spread out amongst everyone.
At the Table
Decorations don’t have to be extravagant and expensive. Placemats decorated by the youngest members of a family are heartwarming and special. A centerpiece can be made from objects around the house or even autumn reminders from the backyard. The table will look great with just the food spread out and the plates at each chair.
A tablecloth can be turned into a family heirloom with each member of the family writing a thought about Thanksgiving on it. Don’t look for expensive linens and costly accessories to cover the table. Keep in mind that most people sitting around the table are more interested in celebrating as a group and spending time being thankful with friends and family.
