Cheap Comic Book Halloween CostumesTrench Coat Heroes and Villains
A quick trip to the nearest second-hand store and a hobby shop is all that's needed for these easy-to-do comic book Halloween Costumes!
Trench coats are easy to come by at any second hand store, though men may have to swallow their pride a bit and look in the women's section to get a larger variety of styles and colors. Here are a few easy comic book costumes that involve trench coats. Rorschach From "Watchmen" Here's all you need for a quick and easy Rorschach costume!
Cut the pillowcase or white sheet to work as a simple hood/mask (it's okay if the top of the mask looks weird; the hat can cover it up). Paint on any cool symmetrical pattern, then cut out holes for the eyes. If using a stocking, eye holes might not be needed, but remember, however bad vision might be during the day though the mesh, it will be worse at night. Any black makeup or eye black (the stuff you see on football players) can be used to darken the are around the eyes if using eye holes. Talk in a raspy voice and Rorschach is born! The Punisher from Marvel ComicsA coat helps with the authentic looks, but isn't necessary. For the Punisher, grab the following:
Just paint a skull on the t-shirt and The Punisher is good to go! Officially licensed t-shirts are available at various clothing stores, but having a custom shirt can look scarier and more authentic. If really going all-out, get a belt with a lot of pouches or any number of gun holsters or harnesses. For added gruffness, burn the end of a cork with a lighter (kids, get a parent's help with this one!) and rub it on for some fun fake stubble. Slicked back hair and a gruff voice will help bring The Punisher to life! Remember: guns (even fake guns) are often prohibited in public, so make sure to check before going out, and if they're allowed, note that it's illegal to remove or paint over the orange tips on plastic guns! Will Eisner's The SpiritThe movie may have done as well as some other comic book movies, but the look is still classic comic book detective.
When he designed this character, Will Eisner just had a generic looking detective, but when he was told he had to making him more like a super-hero, he added gloves and an eye mask. Any suit can work here; in the film, The Spirit wears black with a red tie, and in the comic he generally wears a blue suit. Considering the difficulty in finding blue fedoras, and the fact that the former is the more recognizable to non-comic fans, that's probably the way to go.
