Instead of just accepting the first New Year's party invitation this year, come up with your own special New Year's traditions to create lasting memories with your family
Family traditions make each holiday special and create lasting memories. Whether you do not have a family tradition for New Years or you want to create a new tradition, here are some ideas to help create some special New Years memories. Local New Years EventsCheck for local celebrations. Many towns hold special celebrations, and if you are the type to want to go out and experience the New Year as a family, this can be a great way to celebrate. Some of these festivals are huge and elaborate such as the Peach Drop in Atlanta, Georga, which boasts the largest New Years celebration in the southeast. Others are smaller celebrations such as First Night in downtown Annapolis, Maryland. Private New Years PartyAnother popular tradition is to host your own New Years party. Inviting family and friends over to your home to usher the New Year in together. When throwing your own New Year's bash, think about special things that can become tradition. Some ideas include a special toast at midnight, watching the ball drop on TV, or creating your own special games to play. Sometimes traditions can be made from simply having the same dish for dinner each year. When planning a New Years Party, think about the little things. Create unique invitaitons to the New Year. Host a potluck where each family brings their favorite dish to share. Play a dinner game where everyone orders off of a menu where the ordered items are not what they seem and include both the food and utensils. Consider decorating each room of your house with different holiday decor for the upcoming year - Valentine's Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Doing Something Different for New YearsUnique ideas can make for the best traditions. Celebrate New Years with just your family by camping out in the living room. Make smores in your fire place and drink hot chocolate. Sleep on the floor in sleeping bags and set several alarms for midnight if you feel you must get up to greet the new year. You can also make a tradition of doing something different each year for New Years. Start a New Years journal and each year write down what you do to celebrate, and when deciding on what to do for each subsequent year, consult the journal to make sure you do not repeat anything. When considering your New Years resolutions this year, think about resolving to make your celebration a new family tradition.
