Looking for an easy and humorous costume for Halloween? Here are some homemade outfits that are easy and fun for adults, kids, couples, groups and individuals.

Here are some simple ideas for Halloween that are easy to do and that are based on well known sayings in English. Some of them can be combined with other outfits. They can also work as a theme for a couple of people dressing up for Halloween or a bigger group.

Having a Green Thumb for Halloween

Paint a thumb green. And when people ask about the costume, explain that you have a “green thumb.” This costume can be dressed up by buying fake leaves and flowers and putting them in a garland in the hair and entwining the faux plants on to the arms, legs and body for decoration.

Butterflies In My Stomach Halloween Costsume

Get pipe cleaners, paper and paint and make paper butterflies. If there are wooden clothespins around the house, they can be used as the body of the butterfly with paper as the wings and the pipe cleaner as the antennae. The clothes pins are easy to stick on. If you don’t have time to get clothes pins, then use pins or sew the butterflies on to the stomach area of either a shirt or a dress. The person wearing the costume can say she has butterflies in her stomach and some are escaping. Put a few on barettes and pin to the hair as well.

Frog in My Throat Halloween Costume

This idea can be added to the above costume or it can be done on its own. Buy a plastic frog and glue it to a ribbon or piece of cloth that can be tied around the neck. It’s to go with the saying “There is a frog in my throat,” but in this case it has escaped or is representing the one that is stuck in the person’s throat still.

Have a Funny Bone for Halloween

Another idea that can be combined with the ideas above or to do on its own is to write “Ha ha ha” along the bone on a person’s forearm. What is this supposed to be? Why it’s the person’s funny bone.

Dress Up as Green with Envy for Halloween

Wear all green clothes and find some green makeup to make face, hands and any other exposed skin green. Put some make up around the eyes and eyebrows for a severe and angry look. Voila! The person is green with envy.

Feeling Blue Halloween Costume

Wear all blue clothing and paint exposed skin with blue makeup. Draw some tears on to the face and use eyeliner around the corner of the eyes pointing down to make them look sad. Now the person is “feeling blue” for Halloween.

If a group wants to have a color theme, try adding someone as “tickled pink,” “white as a ghost” and “yellow-bellied.”

Going Nuts Halloween Costume

Find an outfit from shirt and pants to a dress and glue on nuts. Get a bag of mixed nuts and glue them right on, or buy prepackaged bags of nuts and glue those on to the costume and even do a combination of both. Make a peanut necklace, bracelet and/or headband by using needle and thread to string through the peanuts. Now the person can "go nuts" for Halloween.

These ideas are based on popular sayings and it can be fun to pair them up, like having a couple where one person is green with envy and the other is feeling blue. Or go as a group with one person having a green thumb, one with butterflies in her stomach, another with a frog in his throat and the last person with a funny bone.
