Halloween costumes for younger teenagers can be tricky, especially if you're looking for something that is not overly provocative. Older teens, in the age 18 or 19 range are basically going to be shopping for adult costumes, but here are some ideas for costumes for young teens that are not as 'sexy' as many of those on the market. Teen Girl Costumes
There are many adorable teen girl costumes that are cute without being too adult. (One tip, if your daughter finds a costume that appears too grown up, is to ask her to wear a tank top or capri leggings underneath it.) Teen Boy Costumes
There are not nearly as many Halloween costumes available for teen boys as teen girls. Star Trek and Star Wars costumes are very popular for 2009 for boys. Because of the 40th aniversary of Sesame Street this year, costumes including Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch etc. are also out. Boys sometimes like scarier costumes, so look for the cool new Complete 3-D Zombie Teen, Big Bruiser Punk Zombie Teen or Big Bruiser Scareface Teen; the masks on the new set of Big Bruiser Teen costumes are pretty cool!
Another easy trick for a boy teen costume if he wants to be scary is to simply search through the mask collections at different online Halloween sites; you can always pair a mask with black shirt and pants or plain black hooded robe.
Group or Funny Costumes for Teens
There are tons of cute, funny costumes for teens whether they're boys or girls, or if they want to dress up with friends in group costumes. M&Ms costumes are in tons of colors this year, the entire set of Wizard of Oz costumes is out new again this year, and there are a whole collection of Sesame Street characters costumes. Other funny costumes include Happy Tree Friends characters, Hot Dog, inflatable costumes like Ballerina and Cry Baby, Little Trees Car Freshener, Gumby, and new Bobble Head costumes as well.
One other tip for shopping for teen Halloween costumes is to check the clearance section of online Halloween costume websites- you can often find tons of great deals for much less than the prices of the brand new costumes just released.
