Make adorable snowmen from marshmallows and a few other food ingredients. This holiday themed dessert is great for parties or as a sweet little gift.

Looking for a holiday treat that is as delicious as it is cute? Snowmen make the cut. They are the perfect holiday symbol: jolly, winter-fresh and non-sectarian. While preparing for the holidays this December, make these adorable snowman treats; a crowd-pleasing dessert for children and adults alike.

Below is the recipe for making edible snowmen stacks. It starts with a few simple food ingredients like marshmallows. Families can make them, then display them on a tray for a lovely holiday party centerpiece. Or wrap one up in a decorative cellophane bag www.papermart.com, add a bow or teeny ornament, and give the snowman away as a wonderful little gift.

Making the Snowman Stack Dessert

To make the snowmen (this recipe will make two dozen) requires the following:

  • 50 standard size marshmallows
  • 25 graham cracker squares, any flavor OK
  • 1-2 tubes of decorative cake gel, in chocolate (black or brown)
  • 1 tub of vanilla/white cake frosting
  • 25 pretzel sticks, snapped in half (yields 50)

A butter knife and teaspoon should also be readily at hand. Start off by halving the pretzels, then set out all the counted and prepared ingredients upon a covered work surface. ( Note: this recipe includes at least one extra of each item, in case of breakage.)

So Cute and Easy to Assemble

  1. Spread a large dot of vanilla frosting onto the center of the graham cracker. Place first marshmallow atop it.
  2. Spread a smaller dot of frosting on top of that marshmallow and stack the second marshmallow on.
  3. Use the dark gel icing to draw eyes and other features onto the top marshmallow (the snowman's head).
  4. Press two pretzel halves, pointed tip in, into both sides of the lower marshmallow (as the snowman's arms).
  5. Use the gel icing to add on other details as desired, such as buttons, or a collar.
  6. Set aside to dry.

Put Out as Table Decor or Turn the Dessert into a Gift

Allow time for all the snowmen to dry (about 30 minutes) then decide if they will be bagged up or displayed out on the table. For a novel winter party centerpiece, place a group of snowmen out on a large oval or rectangular tray, surrounded by a snowfield of shredded coconut. Add in and a few spearmint leaf candies representing mini pine trees. This snowman dessert can also be turned into an adorable and inexpensive holiday gift. Simply set the stack-up inside a festive red, green or printed cellophane bag, then close it off with a colored or shiny foil tie.

All it takes for holiday food fun is a bag of marshmallows and a little imagination!
