Costumes can bring more to the Halloween table than just fear and gore. A little warmth and class can be included in this year's costume party with this idea! This costume's base includes a pastel-colored top, loose fitting khaki pants, and flat comfortable shoes. In addition to this base, an apron with gardening gloves coming out of the pockets would be appropriate. Carrying a basket full of goodies, such as muffins and cookies, would also add a nice touch to this fun yet simple costume.

Starving Artist

This idea is sure to make friends and family laugh! The Starving Artist costume begins with an apron and beret that have been splattered in paint. A painter's palette can be found at local art and retail stores for as low as $5 or can be hand-made using cardboard. The final step to this silly outfit is a sign that should be attached to the apron that says "Will Paint for Food."

Elvira

The sexy look of the iconic character "Elvira" is another costume that is inexpensive and easy to do. The main piece for this look is the long black dress with long sleeves. The bottom and sleeves of the dress can be cut at the ends in a zigzag or rugged design if wanted. The front of the dress is typically very low-cut for this particular character, but adjustments can be made to suit the wearer who has more conservative tastes. An "Elvira" wig can be purchased online for around $20. All that is left is adding some black heels and over-the-top makeup and this costume is complete!

Beaten Beauty Queen

The base for this design is a pretty gown, maybe an old forgotten bridesmaid's dress, and a fake tiara. Wide ribbon is used for a sash. Marker can be used to give the wearer a desired title on the sash, such as "Miss America." Make-up is used to create the illusion of a bloody-nose and black eye. With the other contestants fighting over the crown, the wearer's hair for this design would probably be tangled and messy as well. This design could also be taken to a scarier place, maybe with an undead feel, and leaves room for creativity and imagination.

Substitute Teacher

A conservative top and long skirt should be worn as the basis for this costume. Hair would be appropriate in a bun. Thick glasses and flat shoes would also work for this design. A paper airplane could be stuck into the wearer's bun and a sign that says "kick me" could be taped to the back of the costume for humor appeal. Again, there are many creative additions that could be applied to this idea. Another example being chalk hand prints all over the top and skirt.

Get Creative!

These are only a few of the many creative options for women this Halloween holiday. With a little imagination and the holiday spirit, adult women can participate in the festivities with these fun, quick, and inexpensive costume ideas. Happy Halloween!
