A sense of satisfaction can be sought from creating home made Christmas decorations, particularly from Christmas craft for kids.

Christmas can be made enjoyable for children by providing them with Christmas craft kits for making Christmas decorations, cards and ornaments or decorations for the Christmas tree. But Christmas streamers can be added to children’s repertoire by a simple method, which provides something different to the usual paper chains. The finished result will be impressive and complex-looking homemade Christmas streamers that kids will obtain hours of crafty fun creating.

Christmas Paper Craft Ideas for Kids

The following items are required for making homemade Christmas streamers:

  • Large sheets of paper
  • Compass
  • Pencil
  • Scalpel
  • Scissors
  • Decorative items such as felt tip pens, paint and glitter

With the compass, draw a large circle approximately 10 inches wide onto several sheets of paper. Cut out the circle and supply a circle to each child.

Children can have fun decorating their paper circles with coloured paint and glitter. Ensure that both sides of each circle are decorated.

An adult will need to make special cuts in the circles via the scalpel, but the children can have fun watching their paper streamers materialise in front of their eyes.

Christmas Craft Ideas for Kids

  1. Once the children have finished their project, take one circle.
  2. With the compass, draw a slightly smaller circle inside the first circle
  3. Repeat drawing consecutively smaller circles within each circle, ensuring the pencil lines are visible
  4. Keep going until the centre is reached (fig 1)
  5. With the scalpel, carefully score around the largest inner circle in four equal arcs, leaving a section of paper between the arcs intact (the circle is not intended to be cut out)
  6. Missing the next circle, go on to the next circle and repeat (fig 2)
  7. Again, miss the next circle and cut the next one in the same way
  8. Keep going until all alternate circles have been cut in the same way
  9. Go back to the largest circle that has not been cut. This time, cut in four equal arcs, but in the opposite places (fig 3)
  10. Go on to the next circle that has not been cut and cut in the same places
  11. Continue to cut the other circles that have not been cut until all circles have been cut
  12. The large circle can now be opened up to form a fancy streamer that can be draped over wall fittings and the Christmas tree.
