Having a blast with friends and family over the holidays is both easy and memorable. Here are some tips for organizing the best New Years Eve Party ever.

Partygoers begin early to find the right babysitter, the perfect little black dress and the best New Years Eve bash but there is a way to avoid all the hassle while still ringing in the New Year in style.

The Benefits of Planning a Family Oriented New Years Eve Celebration:

  • It is more cost effective because there is no baby sitter to pay, no new outfits needed and no overpriced hotel room or meal to spring for.
  • Everyone is included. Adults and children can watch the ball drop in Times Square together.
  • It’s fun. With just a little planning, all ages can enjoy food, games and general merriment.
  • It brings together friends and family. Everyone can catch up, enjoy each other’s company and wind down at the end of the holiday season.
  • Very little preplanning is involved. Unlike other New Years Eve events, it can be put together at the last minute.
  • Nobody has to drive home. Because this is a sleepover party, there is no need to take one’s chances on the road.

Who Should Host a Family Oriented New Years Eve Sleepover Party?

There really is no rule about who should open their home to the New Years Eve revelers but a good rule of thumb is to compare the number of people invited to the size of the homes of the possible hosts. If the party will be a large one and the folks who own the largest house are willing, the event might work best there, allowing room to spread out. If a large house is not available, a smaller residence can be arranged to accommodate everyone by temporarily removing some furniture to make way for games, eating, sleeping and socializing.

Entertainment at a New Years Eve Party With Kids:

One of the advantages of a family oriented New Years Eve party is the opportunity to tailor the activities to the ages of the party goers. Choosing games that are age appropriate insure that everyone is included in the fun. For example, while some adults might play Chutes and Ladders with the younger crowd others could enjoy a rousing game of Monopoly with the older kids. Movies are a good way to entertain all ages as long as they are age appropriate and someone monitors who is watching what.

Of course noisemakers, hats and confetti are optional but too much fun not to be included.

Food Choices at a New Years Eve Family Sleepover Party:

Ordering in is perhaps the easiest way to provide food for a family and friends party. In most areas there is a variety of selections for home delivery. Everything from the stand by pizza and chicken wings to Chinese food, sandwiches, and in some areas, even sushi. Party goers can agree on a menu ahead of time or put their heads together at the party.

Another way to feed hungry guests is for each family to bring something to pass, making the dinner pot luck. Still another is for the host to assign each family a specific dish or course, much like a gourmet club gathering.

Beverages will differ from group to group but usually there will be choices for both adults and children. The one choice that is the most fun is what to toast with to welcome the new year at midnight. One possibility is champagne for the adults and sparkling apple juice or non alcoholic champagne for the children.

Happy New Year

Whatever shape the plans for a family New Years Eve Sleepover celebration take, the participants will probably savor the ball drop in Times Square, counting down from ten to one and making a toast while watching the fire works in the sky and the confetti filling the air. Perhaps they will sing along to Auld Lang Sine and make New Years resolution. But whatever they do it will be together.
