Each year there is the hot, trendy costume that swarms past your door in droves. Here’s what can we expect to see being worn by those trick-or-treaters this Halloween.
What's Timely
In a presidential election year, politics are a low-lying fruit of a costume idea. Barack/Hillary, McCain and Palin (moose hat a must) and folks running in more local elections will undoubtedly be gracing the Halloween green carpet. Since the wrap-up of the Olympics, a Michael Phelps swimming costume (with a Gold Medal costume date) might also show up. Celebrity costumes are always hot, and any celebrity who died recently is fodder for a costume, so look for Bernie Mac, George Carlin, Heath Ledger, Tim Russert and other celebs to show up in costume tribute form this Halloween, along with inevitable celeb train wreck costumes like Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole Smith, Britney/Jamie Spears, Miley Cyrus (the nude edition), etc.
Kids Costumes
It’s hard to convince your child to "be something" unique and clever when he is dying to be Batman and she just has to be Hannah Montana. You may as well let them dress up in the costume they really want; otherwise you will just feel guilty later. Some of the hot costumes for kids this year include High School Musical characters, Iron Man, Speed Racer, Transformers, Harry Potter (still), Power Rangers, Chronicles of Narnia, and as always, the Disney Princesses.
Couples Costumes
Ketchup and Mustard, Salt and Pepper, Flintstones, Jetsons, disco couple, Adam & Eve – these are some popular couples costumes this year. Or, choose something like the Ball and Chain, Tacky Travelers, Indiana Jones characters, and – well, you might as well go for it – Batman and Joker (though there are going to be a ton of these around this year). Semi-Pro Jackie Moon (or, really, any Will Farrell character) and a '70s girl would look great together, as would pregnant Juno (slinky shirt, pillow) and her jogging suit-clad boyfriend. Regis and Kelly, Santa and the Tooth Fairy, a sexy doctor and nurse, Dog the Bounty Hunter characters (see picture), Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are all good couples choices as well.
Teen Costumes
One of the hottest trends in teen costumes for this year is the Twilight series characters. The popular book series by Stephanie Meyer has introduced characters like Bella, Edward and Jacob. Also popular? Characters from Prom Night and other horror flicks.
Funny Halloween Costumes
There’s always a new collection of funny costumes designed to bring out that HA in Halloween at adult parties. Some new ones available this year include the more mild Taco, Caveman or Gecko, King Crab, Nerd, and some inflatables like Personal Trainer, Ninja, etc.
However, if you are feeling raunchy this year, there’s a whole new wave of costumes available from which to choose. The Borat Mankini, Genie in the Lamp, “Anita Waxin” (you just have to see it), and the male anatomy is rather – er – prominent this year with costumes like “The Biggest Show on Earth”, “Longuini and Meatballs” and “Special Present” (reminiscent of a certain in-a-box Justin Timberlake skit on Saturday Night Live).
