From celebrities to horror movie villains to favorite cartoons, if looking for a pumpkin that is truly unique, try these fun and scary pumpkin carving stencils and ideas.

Having a great carved pumpkin makes any Halloween décor complete. While many online sites and stores sell or offer free stencils, you can also easily make your own by just printing out any black and white image on transparent paper, placing it over the pumpkin and tracing around the lines using an exacto knife or other pumpkin carving tools. There are also many tutorials on the web that will teach you how to make a stencil from any picture using Photoshop.

Celebrity Designs

Consider a celebrity pumpkin. Better Homes and Gardens offers free stencils of celebrities such as President Barack Obama, Sarah Palin and Oprah Winfrey on their website at Bhg.com.

Movie Pumpkin Designs

A carved pumpkin representing one of the year’s top movies would be interesting for trick or treaters. Try the logos from the movies Transformers (available at ultimate-pumpkin-stencils.com), Star Trek or G.I. Joe.

Try a carving of a popular movie character like Darth Vader (available at Spookmaster.com), Harry Potter (available at Stoneykins.com), Gollum from Lord of the Rings or the skull from Pirates of the Caribbean (available at Canucarve.com).

Scary Pumpkins

For a really frightening pumpkin use a stencil of a horror movie character such as Michael Myers from the Halloween movies, Hell boy, Chucky from Child’s Play or Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street (available at ZombiePumpkins.com). These designs are obviously a lot more challenging.

There are also more legendary movie monsters to consider like Creature from the Black Lagoon (green frog-like man), the Wolf Man (available at ultimate-pumpkin-stencils.com), or Godzilla.

Disney Pumpkins

If a more innocent pumpkin stencil is desired consider less scary monsters like Scully from Monsters Inc., the old hag from Snow White, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty (available at CartoonJr.com), Scar from The Lion King, Syndrome from The Incredibles or Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

Pumpkin Faces

A popular cartoon character also makes a fun pumpkin, one like Sponge Bob Square Pants (available at CartoonJr.com), Homer Simpson or a Smurf.

Use a popular face for the pumpkin stencil such as the Smiley face, Pac Man, or a Lego face. If just an ordinary scary face is wanted, there are a variety of funny and scary face pumpkin stencils at KraftCanada.com.

Halloween Words and Scary Phrases Stencils

There are also pumpkin carving stencils that are words or scary phrases but written in a graphic font. Try carving a word or phrase such as BOO!, Beware, Happy Halloween, Trick or Treat, Get Out!, Danger, or R.I.P.

There are hundreds of pumpkin carving stencils available online, some free and some or a small charge, but again, it is fairly easy to make your own.
