Dress up your home with some green and gold for a "wee celebration".

St. Patrick’s Day is a day of Irish food, drinks and fun. Throwing a festive Irish party is a great way to celebrate. Besides food and drink, decorations are a necessity. Here are some hints to get the decoration process started. Keep in mind all things green and gold are a must.

Irish Table Decorations

Table Cloth: Table cloths, especially plastic ones, are a quick and easy way to spruce up tables for a party and protect the table at the same time. Choose a shade of green or gold to stay in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit.

Confetti: Party stores sell all different kinds of festive confetti so pick a few bags in different shapes to sprinkle on table tops. For this particular holiday the popular shapes are four-leaf clovers and pots of gold.

Candles: To spice up the top of the tables get a white or gold candle and put it in a hurricane lamp. Then sprinkle the bottom of the lamp with the confetti mentioned above. Just make sure the candle is tall enough to keep the flame away from the confetti.

Place these candles around the party rooms on tables. They supply decoration and mood lighting.

St. Patrick's Day Wall Decorations

Pot of Gold: There’s an old tale about leprechauns and their pots of gold. The legend says when the Vikings were in control of Ireland they hid their spoils in the ground. When the Vikings left the land they forgot a few pots that the leprechauns then found. The leprechauns decided to hide the gold from the humans. The legend says the pots of gold can be found at the end of a rainbow.

For wall décor, make or buy paper rainbows, big or small, and put pots of gold at the end of them. Black, plastic pots and chocolate gold coins can be bought at most party supply stores.

Streamers: Green and gold streamers can be strung up on the ceiling and around door frames to add that extra dash of Irish spirit.

Irish Costumes

Guests: Have guests come dressed in something green, of course. Hopefully some guests will dress up in leprechaun costumes! After guests get to the party, supply them with green, sparkly hats, “Kiss me, I’m Irish” pins, or fake red beards.

Miscellaneous: Buy some St. Patrick’s Day themed Mardi Gras beads for guests to put on and some clover shaped temporary tattoos to put on faces, arms, legs, or hands.

Irish MusicKeep some Irish themed music on in the background during the party to keep guests in the Irish spirit.
