The fifth day of Christmas, according to the song, has someone sending a gift of five gold rings. Why not host a dinner or party based on gold and the Olympic Games?

According to the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, the gift associated with the fifth day of Christmas was five gold rings. The symbol of the Olympics is five rings so why not hold a mini Olympic Games party playing children’s games or throw a gold party and serve golden foodstuffs.

Host a Gold Party and Make Money

Hosting a gold party to sell unwanted bits of gold jewellery is a recent innovation in the UK and can be a good way of making cash from those broken earrings, necklaces and bracelets etc. There are several online companies that will send out a precious metal professional who will value those unwanted trinkets and offer a price on the spot. Payment is in cash and the host generally gets 10% commission.

So set the date, organise the jewellery professional and invite guests to bring their scrap gold (and silver and platinum too) jewellery. Serve a white wine, canapés and nibbles such as crisps, Pringles and breadsticks with dips based on foods at the yellow end of the colour spectrum such as hummus, cheese and honeydew melon.

Throw a Mini Olympic Games Party

Bring out the inner child within party guests by staging a mini Olympics party based on children’s games. A competitive triathlon could be compiled out of garden games where guests take part in skipping, hula-hooping and hop scotch. An indoor triathlon could be devised of a knock out competition playing games like tiddlywinks, snap and pick-up sticks.

Celebrate the fact the 2012 Olympics will be held in the UK and serve roast beef, Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. Or base food for this party on a Grecian theme because that is where the Olympic Games began. Serve dishes using feta cheese, olives, tomatoes and aubergines (egg plants). This recipe for baked aubergine is quick and easy to make and delicious.
