Neckties make great Father's Day gifts but why not kick your gift giving up a notch and give dad an extraordinary gift he'll love and he'll remember.

Father's Day is a great opportunity to show dad how much he's loved and appreciated. Gifts for dad can include hand-made items from the kids or a nice breakfast; but, if you really want to give the special dad in your life something he'll remember, here are a few unique gift ideas.

Fearsome Foursome

Talk to three other women who have husbands who are dads and plan a golf foursome. It’s best to make sure the guys all get along well. Pay for the green fees and schedule a tee-time up front for the group. Let dad know in the morning what his big day holds. Take the kids somewhere and send dad off for the day with his friends maybe even having him meet them for breakfast first. If dad’s not a golfer, think about a day-long fishing outing with friends or sending the group off to a gun show or monster truck extravaganza in your area.

Sporting Events

Although the Stanley Cup has been won and football doesn’t start up for another two months, there is still baseball, golf and car races to attend. See if there are any sporting events in your home town or even a neighboring one and grab up some tickets for dad. Surprise him at breakfast or if he likes to plan ahead, give them to him early so he can enjoy the experience.

Camping

Plan a father’s day camping weekend for dad and the kids or the whole family. Find a nearby camp ground and rent a tent and other camping equipment at a local sporting goods retailer. Call the campground ahead of time in case you need to reserve a spot and also to ask important questions like “are there showers” and “are grills available for barbequing”. Pack the cooler with dad’s favorite foods and surprise him with a weekend getaway. Better yet, find a campground where you can rent a cabin and make it easy on the whole family. Dad will enjoy just getting out with nature without the hassles of setting up camp.

Other Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Think about purchasing a subscription to the Beer of the Month Club for beer lovers of a Coffee of the Month Club one for coffee aficionados. If dad loves cigars, there is a gift membership to the Cigar of the Month club as well. Omaha Steaks have memberships available for the beef lovers too.

If barbequing is right up dad’s alley, put together a barbeque kit that has tongs, fork, spatula, bottles of dad’s favorite sauce, a big oven mitt (or two) and maybe even a cool, dad-themed apron. A subscription to Netflix or Blockbusters online will keep dad up-to-date with current movies each month. If he’s a music lover, consider an iPod or other mp3 player and download some of his favorite songs. If you don’t want to open the gift beforehand, give him a music gift card which you can purchase in a variety of denominations at most retail stores.
